(the above is a picture of me wearing a shirt with tons of patterns so that sweat stains won’t show.)
Having huge sweat marks on your shirt is obviously uncomfortable and embarrassing, but it’s so easy to prevent!
Yes, you could get padded, sweat-proof t-shirts. Or stick pads under your armpits, or sweatproof undershirts.
There is an easier option: picking shirts and t-shirts that don’t show sweat marks because they are in the right color or have the right pattern. That’s it!
How to find the right shirt when you sweat a lot?
- AVOID solid and pastel colors (pastel blue, bright red, etc.)
- ALWAYS go for black or white as your default colors
- VARY things up with patterns
- Buy shirts made from breathable fabrics (cotton, bamboo, linen)
- Pick them a tad larger than your size so your armpits can breeze
- Look for a built-in underarm pad to hide sweat marks.
But a picture is worth a thousand words, right? So here we go!
The Plaid shirt
There are so many lines and things going on in that pattern that people won’t notice you are sweating like crazy underneath. Ensure it’s not too tight so you don’t sweat too much. Also, make sure it includes some black and white lines since these colors won’t show sweat stains as much.
The Black t-shirt
When you go black… joke aside, black t-shirts are just timeless. First, they go with everything! Second, black t-shirts don’t show sweat much compared to other solid colors. So that’s an easy win!
My favorite store for classic black or white t-shirts is Uniqlo (no affiliate, just my personal preference) because most of their t-shirts are 100% cotton, have a good fit, and are affordable. But you can find equivalents on Amazon, as long as you make sure they are 100% cotton you should be fine.
The Floral shirt
Flower patterns are back in trend every spring, right? And because it’s patterned, it won’t show sweat much, so that’s a no-brainer! Just make sure the most prominent color on it is white or black again, because these colors show sweat less than a pastel pink for example.
And if you don’t want flowers on the whole thing, floral embroidery details work too!
For example, men can go wild with Hawaiian shirts – if you can pull it! 🙂
The White t-shirt
Yes, another obvious one, but no shame! It WORKS, so why bother looking further? White t-shirts don’t show sweat marks, and you can find them anywhere, in all different shapes and sizes.
And when they get stained, fix them with baking soda and peroxide, or turn them into rad and get new ones! But because white gets stained so quickly by sweat, don’t bother getting expensive T-shirts, just get basic ones!
Make sure they are in cotton though. I’ve noticed that when they are in synthetic fabrics they do show sweat, so stick to natural fabrics as much as possible!
The Animal Print shirt
Other timeless pieces! People used to think I was crazy for wearing so many leopard and zebra prints, but now that they are back in trend, who’s laughing, huh? 🙂 Again, just make sure the pattern includes black and white, and that the clothes are in natural fabrics.
The Geometric t-shirt
ANY pattern works to hide sweat. It can be a pattern with triangles, bats, moons, African wax fabric pattern – you name it. Doesn’t matter. All patterns will work to hide sweat marks. You pick them with mostly black and white shades (yes, I repeat myself a lot 🙂 ).
