I wasn’t expecting much when I grabbed a couple of tees off a rack at H&M during a regular basics run. I was just restocking plain t-shirts, saw a “COOLMAX” tag I didn’t recognize, and figured I’d try one since it was priced like a normal H&M tee. A few wears later, I think it’s genuinely a good option if you’re dealing with hyperhidrosis and don’t want to pay specialty-brand prices for something that actually helps.
What Is COOLMAX, Actually?
COOLMAX isn’t an H&M invention — it’s a licensed performance fiber technology that’s been around for decades and shows up in activewear from all kinds of brands, not just H&M. The fiber is engineered with channels running through it that pull moisture away from your skin and spread it across the fabric surface so it can evaporate faster. It’s a moisture-wicking approach, not a stain-blocking barrier the way some dedicated sweat-proof brands work — more “get the sweat away from you and dry fast” than “stop the sweat from reaching the surface at all.”

What Wearing It Is Actually Like
What stood out to me is how normal it feels. A lot of the dedicated sweat-proof undershirts out there have some heft to them — double layers, reinforced panels, that slightly “medical garment” feel. The H&M COOLMAX tees just feel like a regular soft t-shirt, but you stay noticeably less damp through the day, and when you do sweat, it dries out fast instead of sitting there soaked. For everyday wear — work, errands, casual days — it hits a sweet spot that’s hard to find on a fast-fashion basics rack.

It Comes in Several Fits and Colors
H&M sells the COOLMAX line in regular, loose, and relaxed fits, and in more colors than most dedicated sweat-proof brands bother offering — white, black, gray, teal, plus the occasional patterned or seasonal print. Having actual color choices is a real advantage here: a lot of specialty sweat-proof undershirts only come in white or black, so if you want something in gray or a pattern, H&M’s lineup gives you more to pick from. Black and white will still hide sweat marks the best, but it’s nice to have options.

How It Compares to Other Options — and Why It’s Cheaper
This is a genuinely different approach from brands like SUTRAN Technology, which leans on absorption plus a hydrophobic barrier layer to physically block sweat from showing through. COOLMAX doesn’t block anything — it just moves moisture along and dries fast, which is the same general idea behind a lot of the picks in my roundup of sweatproof undershirts for men. If you want the full breakdown of wicking vs. absorbing fabric, I’ve written about the difference between moisture-wicking and moisture-absorbing fabrics before, and COOLMAX is squarely in the wicking camp.
The price difference is the other big factor. Dedicated sweat-proof brands charge a premium for their double-layer, barrier-style construction — that’s just the cost of the extra engineering. H&M’s COOLMAX tees are priced like any other basic tee in their regular lineup, which puts them at a fraction of what most specialty sweat-proof brands charge. That makes it a reasonable starting point if you want to see whether a wicking fabric helps before spending more on a dedicated barrier-style brand.
Who It’s a Good Fit For
For mild to moderate sweating, everyday odor control, and just feeling less damp during a normal day, this is a solid, affordable pick — especially if you want more color and fit options than most hyperhidrosis-specific brands offer. If you’re dealing with more severe hyperhidrosis and need something that actively blocks sweat from reaching the outside of the shirt, not just wicks it away, a barrier-style brand is still going to serve you better. But as a lower-cost option to try first, or to mix into a rotation alongside a heavier-duty brand, it’s worth considering.
Where to Find It
It’s sold as part of H&M’s regular men’s lineup, not a special order, and priced like a normal H&M basic tee rather than a specialty sweat-proof brand — you can check current styles, colors, and pricing on their COOLMAX collection page. Availability and colors seem to shift with the season, so if you see a color or fit you want, I’d grab it rather than wait.
