Interview with Karina, Founder of Sweaty Girl Society

Hi everyone. Today I have the pleasure of sharing an interview with this fellow HH sufferer. I visit their website and community every day and there are only good vibes. Check the Q&A section below to find out why she did it!

What is Sweaty Girl Society, who is it for, and when did you launch it?

Sweaty Girl Society is an online community for women with hyperhidrosis. It first launched as
an Instagram account and website in 2024, and then in 2025, we launched our free online
membership community!

Why did you start Sweaty Girl Society?

As someone with hyperhidrosis, I’ve always dreamed of starting something like this. Despite
the fact that 3-5% of the population has hyperhidrosis, you rarely hear people talking about it.
In fact, most people with hyperhidrosis work really hard to hide their sweating, due to the
shame and stigma that surrounds excessive sweating. As a result, it’s easy to feel isolated
and alone when you suffer from it.

Sweaty Girl Society tries to change this.

With community at our core, my goal is to create a safe space for women with hyperhidrosis
to come together and feel less alone. My goal is to promote a sense of hope, connection, and
self-acceptance amidst the daily challenges of excessive sweating.

Can you share a bit about your personal journey with hyperhidrosis?

My earliest memory of hyperhidrosis dates back to when I was 10 years old. I was a
sleepover at my friend’s house and we were practicing a dance routine we had made up. I
noticed that my hands wouldn’t stop sweating, and I kept slipping away to the bathroom to
rinse them under cold water and wipe them off. Rather than help, my hands only got more
sweaty, red, and swollen. I remember feeling confused – and hoping my friends wouldn’t
notice.

My hyperhidrosis intensified from there, and as I became a teenager, it started affecting most
parts of my body – my hands, feet, underarms, the backs of my legs, and areas of my torso. I
found it really embarrassing and tried to hide it.

It took me until I was in my early 20’s to get an official diagnosis and over the next two
decades, I tried most treatment options while continuing to work really hard to keep my
    sweating a secret.

But then, when I turned 40, something in me shifted. I decided it was time to break my silence,
and so I started Sweaty Girl Society.

How does Sweaty Girl Society help other people who have hyperhidrosis?

At its core, Sweaty Girl Society aims to help women with hyperhidrosis feel less alone. It does
this by connecting women to information, inspiration, and most importantly to one another.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of creating a community that caters to
    women with hyperhidrosis?

The most rewarding aspect of Sweaty Girl Society is seeing women connecting with each
other, and sharing common experiences. Although hyperhidrosis affects each of us
differently, there are also some strikingly similar commonalities. It’s like we’re all living with
this frustrating medical condition in parallel and through conversation, we start to see we’re
    truly not alone! Myself included.

What’s your vision for the future of Sweaty Girl Society?

My goal is to touch the lives of 1 million women with hyperhidrosis, whether that’s through our
online membership community, blog, newsletter, or social media accounts. Given that there
are upwards of 385 million people with hyperhidrosis worldwide, I think this is very achievable!
I’m also currently working on launching a video podcast, which will be available on YouTube,
Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. And, I’ve got some other fun ideas up my sleeve!

    How can women get involved?

There are lots of ways to get involved. If you’re a woman who sweats excessively, you belong
    at Sweaty Girl Society!

    I invite you to:

And in closing, what’s your hyperhidrosis motto?

Maybe our sweat is our sparkle!

        Jessica Bellinger

I started this blog to help people adapt their fashion styles to their sweating. She has had hands and feet hyperhidrosis for 15+ years (a health disorder due to sweat glands hyperfunctioning) and after a successful surgery to fix it, now deals with the normal compensatory sweating side effect of the surgery. Since the sweating areas changed, she had to adapt her style, outfits and shopping habits to her sweating both before and after the surgery. Everything i write is based on first-hand experience, which she hopes will help others be their most confident in their outfits.
