Accepting hyperhidrosis and Adapting to it

hard truth about hyperhidrosis

Accepting hyperhidrosis and Adapting to it

Yes, of course, there are things you can do to treat your hyperhidrosis.

You can try antiperspirants (the first and least intrusive step) or even get ETS surgery (the most radical and highest-risk step).

There are really 5 main options (or steps) you can try to minimize your excessive sweating.

So you have options.

But the truth is that no matter what option works best for you, all options come with their own downsides… Whether it’s the price, the recurring pinching pain, the side effects, etc. There’s always gonna be something. There is no ideal treatment for us who suffer from hyperhidrosis…

And no matter what option you pick to treat your hyperhidrosis, it’s also very likely you’ll still need to deal with the sweat marks and the embarrassment that go with it anyway. Maybe not all the time, but at least quite often.

For example, I got ETS surgery for my palmar hyperhidrosis (and it worked great for me), but I still have to deal with my sweaty feet and the occasional compensatory sweat from the surgery!

No matter what you do, hyperhidrosis will always sneak up on you.

So, you want to accept it and adapt to it as soon as possible to reduce the impact it has on your mood.

Find the treatment that helps relieve your hyperhidrosis the most, and then use tricks and fashion tips to help deal with the rest of it!

What do I mean by ‘adapting’ to it?

For example, I’ll avoid wearing a light blue shirt that would show a sweat mark in my back.

Or I’ll avoid wearing open sandals that would show my swollen and red feet.

With patience and practice, we can all learn how to pick the right fabrics, the right colors, or the right fits for our clothes. We can learn how to find outfits that don’t show sweat, and in which we are comfortable.

Most of us learned the hard way that wearing plain black outfits is best to hide sweat. But it’s not because we wear a lot of black that we have to look like we’re going to funerals! There are lots of things we can do to add color, have style, and have some fun! Wear patterns, paint your nails, show off your jewelry, etc!

Yes, having hyperhidrosis is annoying. But you are in control of how you adapt to it, so it impacts your life as little as possible.

Jessica Bellinger

I started this blog to help people adapt their fashion styles to their sweating. She has had hands and feet hyperhidrosis for 15+ years (a health disorder due to sweat glands hyperfunctioning) and after a successful surgery to fix it, now deals with the normal compensatory sweating side effect of the surgery. Since the sweating areas changed, she had to adapt her style, outfits and shopping habits to her sweating both before and after the surgery. Everything i write is based on first-hand experience, which she hopes will help others be their most confident in their outfits.
